Your company’s network can only be reliable if your tech is managed well. Although often overlooked, one of the most important things to check on your computers is the applications being launched open startup. Hence IT support firm suggests to always check and control these apps which may cause your PC to run slow.
Most programs we install on our computers are created to start as soon as you turn on your computer. It is done for the sake of convenience and visibility. However, not all of them may be essential to our daily tasks. And so, IT support points out that instead of helping, these extra apps can decrease your computer’s speed unnecessarily. Similarly, it also opens to possible cybersecurity risks if they go unchecked. Over time, the more you add apps into your unit, there are also more of these apps that turn on during start up leading to sluggish performance of your PC. Because of this, Windows 11 now offers a feature that notifies users whenever an app is added to launch during startup. As such, aiding users to stay on top of their device’s security and performance.
Audit the apps on your computer regularly. By monitoring the apps, especially those at startup, it not only cleans up space and increases performance. It also decreases vulnerabilities. Furthermore, users can also ensure that all the apps are legit since unknown apps can indicate the presence of malware or other security threats. As such, enabling alerts for new startup apps is essential for users to quickly detect and address any suspicious additions.
You can do this by clicking the Start menu and then selecting the gear icon. Alternatively, you can also use your keyboard by pressing ‘Windows + I’.
As soon as you are in the settings window, you can now click ‘System’ which is found at the left side of the sidebar. After which, you can select ‘Notification’ which is on the right side.
In the notifications page, you can scroll down to the bottom. Just above ‘Additional Settings’, you can find the ‘Startup App Notification’. It is usually off by default, ergo you need to switch it manually to ‘On’.
As soon as it is enabled, you can now get notifications whenever a new application is added to the startup process. Furthermore, you can even customize these notifications by clicking on the arrow next to the slider. You can adjust their appearance and sound according to your preferences.
Aside from the notifications being turned on, you also need to check the current startup apps. You can do this by going to the Task Manager. You can press ‘Ctrl + Shift + Esc’ to open it. After that, select the ‘Startup’ tab. From here, you can see which apps are among the startup line and you can remove those that you don’t find essential.
