What we actually look at

Most “free assessments” are a questionnaire and a quote. This one is a technical review of your live environment, run by an engineer, not a salesperson.

• External exposure — what’s reachable from the public internet: open ports, forgotten remote-access tools, expired certificates, subdomains nobody remembers setting up.
• Email authentication — whether SPF, DKIM and DMARC are set correctly, or whether anyone can currently send email in your company’s name.
• Identity and access — MFA coverage across Microsoft 365, dormant accounts still holding licences, admin accounts without separation, and who has access they no longer need.
• Endpoint and patch status — machines running unsupported Windows builds, missing security updates, and gaps in antivirus or EDR coverage.
• Backup and recovery reality check — not whether backups run, but whether they have ever been restored, how long a restore actually takes, and whether the backups themselves could be encrypted in an attack.
• Regulatory exposure — where you stand against PIPEDA, and PHIPA if you handle health information, including breach-notification readiness.

What you get

Within three business days of the review, you receive a written report containing:

• A plain-English summary your leadership team can read without a technical translator
• Every finding ranked by risk, with the likely business consequence spelled out
• A prioritised fix list split into “do this week,” “do this quarter,” and “budget for next year”
• Rough effort and cost estimates for each item, so you can plan rather than guess
• Anything you can fix yourself, clearly marked as such

The report is yours to keep and to act on however you choose — including handing it to your current IT provider.

Common questions

Is it really free?
Yes. We do a fixed number of these each month because a meaningful share of businesses who see their own risk report decide they want help fixing it. If you don’t, you’ve still got the report.

Do I have to change IT providers?
No. Plenty of the findings are things your existing provider can address, and we mark those clearly. Some clients use the report as an agenda for their next provider meeting.

Will you touch anything in our systems?
No. Every check is read-only. We don’t install agents, change configuration, or interrupt anyone’s work.

How much of our time does it take?
About 45 minutes for the assessment call and 30 minutes for the report review. Nothing else is required from your team.

What if you find something serious?
We tell you immediately rather than waiting for the report, and we explain your options — including the ones that don’t involve us.
